making smocks

ArtBreak starts this week in Pomeroy at the Meigs County public library on Main Street, overlooking the Ohio River. I’ve been making fresh painting smocks from thrift store tee  shirts.

Instructions: Use all-cotton shirts, they are more absorbent and wash up cleaner.  Cut off the sleeves, and trim off the bands at the bottom of the sleeves. Cut a slit in the back and sew the two bands at the top for ties. Stitch around the armholes, or not. Voila.

I like to hand sew these as it is relaxing. ArtBreak children tend to have “favorite” t-shirt smocks; it will be fun to see what they pick out this week.
